Playstation 2 Tops the Charts (Post a comment)
[Wolf, October 22, 2001 @ 06:05 PM CST]
A recent poll asked 25 major retail chains what games they expected to score the most sales in the holiday market, and the results are no surprise: Metal Gear Solid 2 is the top pick. Here's the top ten predictions, ranked alphabetically rather than by rank for some reason (all I know is that MGS2 is #1):

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (PS2)
Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec (PS2)
Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius (Game Boy Advance)
Luigi's Mansion (GameCube)
Madden NFL 2002 (PS2)
Mario Kart Super Circuit (Game Boy Advance)
Rocket Power (Game Boy Advance)
Super Mario Advance (Game Boy Advance)
Super Smash Bros. Melee (GameCube)
WWF SmackDown! Just Bring It (PS2)

[Wolf, October 19, 2001 @ 09:16 PM CST]
The word is out: Soul Reaver 2 has officially gone gold. Quite a stretch past its original planned release date of February 2001, but better late than never. The game will hit stores at last in just a few weeks.

First Screens for Frontline and Reign of Fire (Post a comment)
[Wolf, October 17, 2001 @ 06:18 PM CST]
The first screenshots for the games Medal of Honor Frontline and Reign of Fire are available at GameSpot.com.

Reign of Fire, based on an upcoming movie, allows gamers to attempt to gain control of the world playing as either a human or a dragon. A fall 2002 release is currently planned.

Frontline, the first PS2 installment in the Medal of Honor series, sends the player on a mission to steal a prototype aircraft in World War II. Electronic Arts promises new aspects such as friendly NPC's, moving vehicles, and more interactive environments.

On an unrelated side note, I'd like to apologize for the PS2 Retreat's long absence over the past month.

Davilex Games, a European developer, has announced that it is working on USA Racer, a new racing game for the PS2 and the PC. A Sad Day (1 comments)
[KloWn, September 12, 2001 @ 04:30 PM CST]
As you may have heard, the World Trading Center and the Pentagon were attacked by cowards who know nothing but evil. I would like to take the time to express my condolences to all the victims and family members of this horrible crime. I hope that our President will take the necessary steps to insure this act of war does not go unpunished.

Black & White: Next Generation (Post a comment)
[Wolf, September 10, 2001 @ 06:33 PM CST]
The word from ECTS is that the sequel to the extremely popular PC game Black & White will be headed to PS2, as well as XBox (and the PC, of course). The game, currently known as Black & White: Next Generation, will differ significantly from its predecessor; for one thing, you control your creature directly, rather than playing God over it. You can get the whole scoop here, at IGN.com.

Also, the team working on the console version of B&W: Next Generation is different from the group working on the PC version, which hopefully will mean that we won't be getting just another great PC game turned into a not-so-great ported version.

Street Hoops for PS2 (Post a comment)
[Wolf, September 05, 2001 @ 06:06 PM CST]
Activision has announced that it will be releasing a new street basketball game, Street Hoops, for Playstation 2 and XBox. The game, which is being developed by Black Ops Entertainment, will feature ten courts, each based on a real park in the U.S., and various players who were featured in Nike's "freestyle" commercial series. The game will feature four major game modes: world tournament, king of the court, multiplayer versus, and half-court.

SSX Team Starts Work on Downhill Biking Game (Post a comment)
[Wolf, September 05, 2001 @ 06:00 PM CST]
The EA Sports team behind the popular snowboarding game SSX have started working on a new project, NBX, which will be an "extreme downhill mountain biking game." Although the few previous attempts at creating video games around this sport have had disappointing sales, the fact that the SSX group will be working on it raises the expectations.

Agent Under Fire Screenshots (Post a comment)
[KloWn, September 03, 2001 @ 12:31 PM CST]
IGN managed to grab some shots of EA's upcoming FPS, Agent Under Fire. The screenshots clearly show evidence of car combat which is a very cool feature. I hope this one turns out good because the multiplayer has always been good with the 007 line of games.

New Logo (Post a comment)
[KloWn, September 01, 2001 @ 07:11 PM CST]
Yes, we have created a new logo for the PS2 Retreat. The subject for this image is Nascar Racing. To be more specific, two of today's most respected and in some cases, most hated drivers, Jeff Gordon and Dale Jarret.(I always forget how to spell his name. Lol. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong!) Tell me what you think of it.

Game Revolution has posted a review for Test Drive Off Road Wide Open.

Gamepro has published a review for ESPN X Games Skateboarding.

A preview for Gameday 2002 has been posted by SGN. This Gameday seems promising compared to last years piece of sh*t.

Ah, almost forgot. The review for Madden 2002. Someone send me an e-mail of your thoughts for Madden 2002. Is it better than last year's version? Does it blow it away or is it a tweaked version.

Run Like Hell Delayed (Post a comment)
[Wolf, August 28, 2001 @ 04:15 PM CST]
Interplay's upcoming game, Run Like Hell, has been delayed due to a shift in the overall focus of the gameplay. The game was originally planned to fit into the survival horror genre, but the developers have now decided to put more emphasis on its action elements, as described by the game's producer, Travis L. Williams:

"We are focusing on making the action element of Run Like Hell more immersive & enjoyable than it was before. Run Like Hell started as a survival horror game. However, everyone found the pacing of a Survival Horror game to be too slow. The creatures that you have to face in Run Like Hell move a little too fast for you to have the typical Survival Horror control scheme. These changes are pretty fundamental to the way Run Like Hell works and it will no doubt take us to the end of the year to accomplish."

New Xenosaga Video (Post a comment)
[Wolf, August 24, 2001 @ 02:12 PM CST]
Namco has released a rather long trailer for their upcoming RPG, Xenosaga. Of course, all the speech (and there's a lot of it) is in Japanese... But hey, it's a slow day. Click here to check it out at GameSpot. Xenosaga is slated for a fall 2001 release in Japan, but Americans will have to wait until mid-to-late 2002.

From Software's 2002 Lineup (Post a comment)
[Wolf, August 22, 2001 @ 11:17 PM CST]
From Software has released info on the three games that it currently has planned for the year 2002. Here's the scoop, straight from GameSpot.com.:

Armored Core 3 - Kawamori Shoji returns as the mech designer for the sixth installment of the series. The game is currently 5 percent complete, and it's scheduled for a summer 2002 release.

Shadow Tower Abyss - This game is the sequel to the 3D dungeon RPG released on the PS in 1999. Scheduled for release in spring 2002.

Code: Inferno [project name/working title] - This is an action-RPG where players assume the role of a masked warrior named White Demon, who wields a giant cross called the Holy Key as his weapon.
