PS2 vs. GameCube (cont.)

Sports
It's really hard to decide a champion when it comes to sports games, because so many great franchises are available for both PS One and N64, and will be available for PS2 and GameCube.  FIFA, Blitz, Madden, and even the wrestling games are great on both consoles.

But what about "extreme" sports?  With football, basketball, soccer, and the other "traditional" sports looking good for both companies, the deciding factors become the snowboarding games and the skateboarding games.  And here, Sony dominates.  The two Tony Hawk games lead the way for skateboarding, backed up by the almost-as-good game Grind Session, and and others like Street Sk8er or X-Games Pro Boarder.  Granted, Nintendo has picked up Tony Hawk as well, but it doesn't have other titles to back it up.  As for snowboarding, it's SSX, SSX, and SSX some more.  This game is enough to make any other snowboarding game from either company look like crap.  And if you're worried about Sony staying on top, well, I've heard rumblings about SSX2.  Nuff said.

Predicted Sports Winner: Playstation 2

Role-Playing (RPG)
Uh oh, you've uncovered my dark little secret: I'm an RPG geek (at least I'm not a Star Trek nerd).  But my expertise is not needed.  A trained ape could make the call in the role-playing genre.  Maybe even an untrained ape.  The fact of the matter is, Nintendo offers absolutely no competition for Sony here.

Playstation has given us loads and loads of RPGs, the most notable being Squaresoft's amazing Final Fantasy series, Star Ocean, Chrono Cross, and SCEA's own Legend of Dragoon.  What has N64 offered?  In all seriousness, jack s--t.  What about Zelda, you ask?  Well, I hate to break it to you, but Ocarina of Time is an adventure game, not a role-playing game.  Nintendo Power has even admitted that Aidyn Chronicles will be N64's first true RPG.

And Sony shows no sign of letting up in the battle of the next-generation consoles.  Sure, the first few RPGs on PS2 weren't too hot, but the future looks beautiful.  Squaresoft will extend their empire with two new Final Fantasies already in the works, and we'll also get promising games like Tsugani or Reiselied (a.k.a. Ephemeral Fantasia).

Predicted Role-Playing Winner: Playstation 2

Fighting
I don't take much interest in this genre, but the fighting games already available for PS2 are just too great not to check out.  Tekken Tag and Dead or Alive 2 are simply awesome.  And let's not forget about the solid fighting games on PS One, like Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Mortal Kombat 4.  N64's fighters are almost as good if not equal to PS One's (I like Smash Brothers, so sue me), but PS2 just blows 'em out of the water.  If Sony can keep it up on PS2, there won't be any contest.

Predicted Fighting Winner: PS2
