PS2 vs Stand alone DVD

Sound

Sound was not a big factor. The Mitsubishi and RCA televisions delivered good sound. But to be honest, sound greatly depends on your television. I had surround sound on the Sony television so I have an awesome experience. On the other two, the sound was good enough to fit my needs. If you want to be a hardcore gamer then go beyond and get yourself a nice pair of speakers or a surround sound system.

Navigating

When it came to navigation through the menu's and pressing stop, play, pause and the fast forward buttons, it was horrible with the Playstation 2. The controller in my opinion was not good enough. You have to memorize some of the buttons which is frustrating. Unlike with a stand alone DVD player which has everything labeled. You can buy a remote control for the Playstation 2 for the DVD feature but it's a waste of money.

I don't blame Sony because people usually buy for the gaming, not just for the DVD feature. There wasn't anything they could of done to the controller for DVD controls because they would of have to mess around with the controller. This may have an impact when playing games.

As for the Sony stand alone DVD player, controlling was very easy with the controller. All the necessary buttons were included and there was no need to be guessing on what buttons do what. I get the movie up in seconds and can pause, stop, fast forward, rewind at any second. No hassle.
